Scarab 195 Open boat review:

The American brand is associated with high-speed marine boats - back in the 80s, Scarab built real monsters for which it was not a problem to accelerate faster than 110 km / h. As time went on, Scarab now belongs to Beneteau.

The Scarab 195 has almost no direct competitors - the 19-foot Yamaha family is closer than the others, but they are larger and more expensive. In short, the Scarab 195 is a small but very powerful boat with a water jet, a central location of the control console, the ability to transform the cabin in many ways, having a folding transom and even a toilet in a separate room - this is extremely rare on boats less than 6 meters long. At the same time, the design allows for water ballast intake, so that the Scarab 195 can be used for wakeboarding and water skiing. And with a draft of 305 mm, you can go into shallow water that you can't think of on a boat with an outboard motor.

The Scarab 195 was originally designed for American lakes, but just as well for salt water. Versatility has not been achieved in everything - the sides are quite low, so you should not move far from the sea coast. From the side of the Scarab 195, it resembles an ordinary boat with a central location of the control console (especially when there is a tower with a T-shaped canopy offered for an additional fee), only a kink in the stern looks unusual, visually making the compact boat even smaller and shorter. The console is offset to the stern, and at its base is a tiny changing room in which a cassette dry closet can be installed.

In the bow there is a platform with luggage boxes at the base. You can install a table and seats here, but they are offered for an additional charge. The driver's seat can be turned against the direction of travel. Two more seats on the sides of the driver's seat are hidden. Their backs in the horizontal (folded) position are on the same level with the stern platform, if you raise them, you get two full-fledged places. The highlight is the transom, namely its foldable design. In the tilted position, it forms a bathing area and increases the length of the boat by almost half a meter. The construction is made of very high quality - no backlashes are observed in any position, although, perhaps, the hinges do not look too neat. This contradicts the overall very high quality of the boat. The materials are simple - almost everywhere plastic, but it has a "roughness" where needed.

The boat is powered by a compact and powerful 3-cylinder Rotax 4-Tec engine. There are two options - the base one with a capacity of 200 hp. and the top one - 250 hp. It is $ 2,500 more expensive, which is not much considering the quarter power increase. The start is not hurricane, but impressive: 25 knots (46 km / h) Scarab 195 picks up from a standstill in 7 seconds. The maximum speed is 66.7 km / h. Her vessel is picking up at 8,000 rpm. Consumption will amount to a considerable 41 l / 100 km, but this is a feature of the power plant. The engine "wakes up" at about 6000 rpm, while the speed is 30 km / h. The exit for planing occurs when reaching 15 knots (27 km / h).
