Owner's, Repair and Service manuals for boat's motor

Boat motors

The outboard motor is attached to the boat's transom and is usually gasoline or electric. Economical diesel outboard motors have recently appeared. On large boats, yachts are equipped with stationary diesel engines.

The first examples of outboard boat motors were created in the early 1900s by Ol Evinrud, an American of Norwegian descent. They say that his invention was inspired by melted ice cream, which was much faster to bring home by boat with a motor than by car ...

Outboard engines have been widely used in boats since the second half of the 20th century. The first company that began to produce outboard motors in Japan is Tohatsu, the record holder for the production area of this product.

The advantages of an outboard motor for a boat: it does not take up the useful area of the vessel, as it is located outside of it, it is easy to remove it for storage separately from the boat, and the fuel consumption is much less than that of a stationary engine.

Petrol boat motors are divided into two types: two-stroke and four-stroke. The advantages of two-strokes are low weight and high power density, they are more compact, cost less than four-stroke models, less demanding on the quality of gasoline, have a simpler design, gain momentum faster than four-stroke ones, and are convenient for frequent transportation (transported in any position).

Four-stroke engines have an easier start and a longer service life, they work perfectly at idle and low speeds, are more economical in fuel consumption, and have a lower noise level. The power of the motor is selected depending on the area of its application. For fishing and traveling short distances, a 2-3 hp motor is enough for you. To tow a skier, you will need at least 30 hp. A four-meter boat or cutter needs a 50 hp motor, and a six-meter RIB requires 150 hp. The power of the outboard motor should not exceed the maximum specified in the boat's operating manual. The higher the engine power, the greater the gas mileage. The best option for selecting the optimal motor for your boat is to contact a specialist.

The motor consists of a power unit, a middle part, a transom attachment point, a gearbox with a propeller. The power unit contains a flywheel with magnets rigidly fixed to the crankshaft. The flywheel stabilizes the crankshaft by compensating for piston shocks. The vertically positioned crankshaft converts the translational motion of the pistons into rotational motion through a connecting rod connected to the piston.

At the back are one or two cylinder heads, one plug for each cylinder. Distinguish between in-line and V-shaped arrangement of cylinders. The V angle can be 60 or 90 degrees. An anti-cavitation plate located above the gearbox prevents air from entering the propeller. In the lower part there is a water intake grill, a screw and a feather.

The price of an outboard motor for your inflatable pvc boat or motorboat depends on many factors: power, manufacturer, method of delivery to Ukraine. Earlier, any fisherman dreamed of a motor for a rubber boat, now there is a choice for every taste.

We advise you to pay attention to the price / quality ratio. Buying a cheap motor does not mean saving money, there can be enough trouble with it. If you want the motor not to stall, make noise, smoke, and help you out in bad weather, take a motor of a proven brand.

Outboard motors come in a range of deadwood lengths to match the height of your boat's transom. Different motor brands have their own warranty policies and warranty periods. Official distributors have certified service centers, which employ mechanics who have completed training at manufacturing firms, have original components and spare parts, special equipment and technical documentation.
